Welcome to the Table

You belong here.

We are The Table.

The Table is a member of the Gather Network, a group of interdenominational young adult communities dedicated to engaging deeply with our faith. Whether you have a church home that you love or haven’t been in a while (or ever!), you are welcome here.

The Table (and Gather) exist to fill a gap in programming for young adults in our church communities. There are many congregations throughout the Salt Lake valley with smaller young adult communities. We love our churches, but there often aren’t enough of us for dedicated young adult formation in each congregation. The Table offers an opportunity for young adults to come together across denominational lines to fellowship and learn about our faith together.

We gather twice monthly at locations across the valley for fellowship, fun, and faith discussions. Anyone 18-35 (or somewhere close to that) is welcome to join in!

Current Discussion Series:

What does it mean to be Christian?

In this four-part discussion series, we’ll discuss what it means to be Christian using Rowan Williams’ (a former Archbishop of Canterbury) fantastic book, Being Christian. We’ll examine the Christian life through four lenses; Baptism, Bible, Communion, and Prayer. Taken together, these four elements are essential to the life and witness of a Christian person.

Week 1 - Baptism, September 3 at 6:30 p.m: In this first session, we'll discuss baptism, the (rite, sacrament, or ordinance) by which we enter the Christian church. Just what does baptism mean, and how can we 'live into' our baptisms? This session will take place at St. Paul’s Church, located at 261 S. 900 E. in Salt Lake City. Parking is available in a signed lot across the street from the church; please enter through the glass doors off the parking lot on 900 E.

Week 2 - Bible, September 17 at 6:30 p.m: In this second session, we'll discuss the Bible, sometimes called just 'Scripture' or (for the fancier among us, myself included) Holy Scripture. St. Paul says that "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17). How do we, as Christian people, read scripture, and what does it mean for our life today? This session will take place at St. Mark’s Cathedral, located at 231 E. 100 S. in Salt Lake City. Parking is available in the rear of the church; please enter through the glass doors in the parking lot off 100 S.

Week 3 - Communion, October 1 at 6:30 p.m: In this third session, we'll discuss Communion, often called the Eucharist, the Lord's Supper, or even the Mass. What did Christ mean when he said 'this is my body, this is my blood?' What are the differing opinions of our churches on what communion means, and how it ought to be celebrated? How can communion equip us, as Christian people, for life in the world? This session will take place at St. Paul’s Church, located at 261 S. 900 E. in Salt Lake City. Parking is available in a signed lot across the street from the church; please enter through the glass doors off the parking lot on 900 E.

Week 4 - Prayer, October 15 at 6:30 p.m: . In this final discussion, we'll talk about prayer, which many believe is the central act of Christian life. How do we pray? Why do we pray? For what should we pray? All these questions are crucial to a healthy church community and an active prayer life. This session will take place at St. Mark’s Cathedral, located at 231 E. 100 S. in Salt Lake City. Parking is available in the rear of the church; please enter through the glass doors in the parking lot off 100 S.
